A project to develop a tool to identify the most promising carbon utilization technologies received $1.5 million in funding on Thursday.
The Global CO2 Initiative at the University of Michigan and Europe’s main climate innovation initiative, Climate-KIC, supports this carbon capture project using technologies that aim to remove greenhouse gases from the atmosphere and turn it into useful and profitable products.
Such technologies range from reforestation to direct air capture and involve the further use of the captured biomass or carbon dioxide.
The tool named CO2nsistent will over a three-year period fund a group of researchers and build on research and innovations previously funded by Climate-KIC.
CO2nsistent will evaluate various approaches to carbon utilization to mitigate climate change.
