The Nordex Group closed the third quarter of 2018 with an order intake of 974 megawatts (MW), marking an almost fivefold increase on a year-on-year basis, the Hamburg-based company said Wednesday.
The company's order intake stood at 203.4 MW in the third quarter of last year, according to a statement from the company.
The Nordex Group said it recently received orders from the U.S. comprising of 122 AW125 and AW132 turbines of differing installed capacities, which brought the total order volume in North America in the third quarter to 405 MW.
Moreover, the group is undertaking a project for 99 MW in Argentina, and has received two large orders totaling 252 MW in South Africa.
During the same period, demand in Europe amounted to 218 MW, the company said, adding the strongest individual markets were Germany, Belgium, France and Finland. In Finland last week, the Nordex Group secured its first larger order for its new, highest yielding onshore N149/4.0-4.5 turbine totaling 81 MW.
"With close to 1 gigawatt (GW) order intake in Q3, the Nordex Group has been able to show a very solid and stable new order performance over four consecutive quarters now. This is a result of our sound global footprint enabling us to serve our customers swiftly and flexibly in all markets," said Nordex SE CEO Jose Luis Blanco.
"Initial projects for our new N149/4.0-4.5 turbine also show that our product development strategy is taking effect," he added.
On the products side, new business is largely focused on the AW125, AW132 and N149/4.0-4.5 turbines, according to the statement.
Overall, this year the Nordex Group has already received firm orders amounting to more than 3,070 MW, it added.
According to the press release, the Nordex Group has installed more than 23 GW of wind energy capacity in over 25 markets and in 2017 generated revenues of 3.1 billion.
The company's product portfolio is focused on onshore turbines in the 1.5 to 4.8 MW classes, which are tailor-made for the market requirements in countries with limited space and regions with limited grid capacity.
