Egypt and Türkiye are entering a new era of cooperation marked by expanding energy partnerships and strategic economic collaboration, according to Mohamed Fouad, secretary general of the Egyptian Gas & Energy Association (EGEA).
Future cooperation will likely span exploration and production, the energy transition and green energy, as well as energy technology, Fouad told Anadolu on the sidelines of the International Energy Summit in Istanbul organized by the Association of International Energy Negotiators.
"The dynamics are there," Fouad said, adding that growth is expected across energy and other sectors.
Last month, Türkiye and Egypt signed two important agreements to strengthen cooperation in the field of energy on the 100th anniversary of Türkiye-Egypt diplomatic relations.
Energy ministers from both countries signed a memorandum to enhance cooperation in hydrocarbons and mining.
"We will increase the sharing of technical knowledge and expertise in strategic areas such as oil, natural gas, geothermal, hydrogen and critical minerals," Bayraktar said on X following the signing ceremony.
Ankara and Cairo achieved another first, Bayraktar added, as a Turkish Petroleum Pipeline Corporation (BOTAS)-owned floating gas unit will, for the first time, operate abroad under a new agreement with Egypt's EGAS.
Fouad said the BOTAS-EGAS deal could create new opportunities for energy cooperation.
"I think there will be so much cooperation and coordination," he noted.
He also pointed to ongoing efforts by chambers of commerce and ambassadors to boost Turkish investment in Egypt and deepen bilateral energy cooperation.
"Both countries play a very big role in the Mediterranean," he noted. "I'm very optimistic to see so much happening between both countries."
Fouad also underscored the deep historical and cultural ties between Egypt and Türkiye, noting that political and commercial ties have significantly improved in 2024 and 2025.
Turkish-Egyptian ties have deepened in recent years, with both countries aiming to raise bilateral trade from $10 billion to $15 billion in the near term.
- 'Egypt is ready to be a strong and reliable partner'
Fouad said Egypt is ready to support Türkiye's regional energy hub ambitions as "a strong and reliable partner."
"Our country's strategic position, coupled with our growing energy production and export capabilities, puts us in an excellent spot to significantly enhance regional supply security and diversity," he added.
"By making the most of what we already have and exploring new ways to work together, such as developing shared infrastructure and pursuing joint ventures in energy processing and transport, we can collectively ensure a more stable and responsive energy market for the wider region and beyond," Fouad noted.
He also invited Turkish investors to explore Egypt's gas sector, citing its clear regulations, proven reserves, and growth strategy.
"We invite you to explore the vast potential in upstream development, midstream infrastructure, and downstream industries," he added.
Fouad assured Turkish investors of "full support in navigating the market and forging successful, long-term partnerships that contribute to the prosperity of both our countries."
