Turkey more than quadrupledÌýits renewable energy consumption in the last fiveÌýyears,Ìýaccording to BP 2015'sÌýStatistical Review of World Energy.Ìý
Turkey consumed 0.5 million tons of oil equivalent (MTOE) in 2009,Ìý0.9 (MTOE)Ìýin 2010 whileÌýinÌý2011 this figure rose toÌý1.3 MTOE. Additionally, Turkey consumedÌý1.7ÌýMTOE inÌý2012 and this increased to 2.3 MTOE in 2013. Another hike was seen in 2014 with 2.8ÌýMTOE.
According to the report,Ìýa large upturn was seen whenÌýthe country's renewable consumption increasedÌý21.7 percent in 2014 compared to 2013.
The total global consumption inÌýrenewables for 2014Ìýwas 316.9 MTOE.
TheÌýreport shows that theÌýmost renewable energy consumption was in the U.S. with 65 MTOE, China with 53.1ÌýMTOE and Germany withÌý31.7 MTOE.Ìý
In 2014, the U.S. recorded itsÌýhighest renewable energy consumption since 1930.
On the other hand, the least renewable energy consumption was in Russia, Iran and Algeria. The common denominator for these countries in producing low renewables is that they haveÌýthe largest natural gas reserves in the world.
