The Finnish energy company Neste is providing three major US airlines with renewable aviation fuel for flights from San Francisco International Airport (SFO), the company announced in a statement on Thursday.
Neste is the world鈥檚 largest producer of renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) produced from waste and residue raw materials.
The company is supplying low-carbon and high-quality fuel to Alaska Airlines, American Airlines and JetBlue Airways to 鈥渃ontribute to each airline鈥檚 efforts to reach their climate goals.鈥
The fuel is being delivered to SFO via pipeline, 鈥渁 milestone the airport has called a 鈥榗limate quantum leap鈥,鈥 the company said.
鈥淭ogether we鈥檙e moving the aviation industry toward a more sustainable future,鈥 Thorsten Lange, Executive Vice President for Renewable Aviation at Neste, was quoted as saying in the statement.
鈥淎laska was the first North American carrier to commit to advancing and adopting the use of SAF, and one of the first airlines to demonstrate the use of SAF in passenger flying with nearly 80 flights using sustainable aviation fuel over the last 10 years,鈥 said Diana Birkett Rakow, Alaska Airlines鈥 vice president of external relations.
鈥淩educing our greenhouse gas emissions is an important part of JetBlue Airways鈥 business plan. We remain focused on long-term environmental opportunities, particularly lessening our largest impact 鈥 carbon emissions from flying,鈥 said Joanna Geraghty, president and chief operating officer, JetBlue Airways.
