Volkswagen delivered more than 80,000 electric vehicles in 2019, corresponding to a marked increase of about 60%, the German automaker said Monday.
The Volkswagen brand delivered 6,278,300 vehicles throughout the world in 2019, exceeding the prior-year's figure by 0.5%, according to the statement.
"In a shrinking overall market, the brand therefore significantly expanded its market share. Volume growth was achieved in Europe, South America, Asia-Pacific and the U.S.A.," the statement read.
The company reported that compared with the previous year, customers� interest in electrified models grew considerably. "More than 80,000 electric vehicles were delivered, corresponding to a marked increase of about 60%," the German automaker stressed.
It added that more than half of these customers opted for an all-electric vehicles while the remainder chose plug-in hybrids. The most popular model was the e-Golf, with more than 35,000 units delivered.
