Spain’s foreign minister has sharply criticized Israel’s ramped-up attacks in Gaza over the weekend, calling them “absolutely unacceptable.”

The death of more than two hundred people in Gaza as a result of recent attacks in the past few days is "absolutely unacceptable,” Jose Manuel Albares posted on X on Sunday.

He also highlighted the dire humanitarian conditions caused by Israel’s ongoing siege of the Palestinian enclave.

“The situation in the strip is critical, devastating, and profoundly inhumane,” he added.

He also “strongly condemns the escalation of violence” amid Israel’s renewed ground operations in both northern and southern Gaza.

“The Palestinian people have the right to live in peace and with hope,” said Albares. “Spain’s foreign policy is committed to the implementation of the two-state solution as the only way to achieve a just and lasting peace.”

Last week, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez called Israel a "genocidal state."

The Israeli army has pursued a brutal offensive against Gaza since October 2023, killing more than 53,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children.

The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
