Zelenskyy says Western countries still send equipment to Russia

ISTANBUL

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Friday some Western countries are still sending equipment to Russia, helping it make weapons, despite international sanctions.

“Unfortunately, even Western countries still continue to supply Russia with equipment and critical components,” Zelenskyy said at a conference on new sanctions against Moscow, cited by state-run Ukrinform news agency.

He added that Ukrainian experts have found “hundreds of types” of foreign parts in Russian drones and missiles.

Zelenskyy said Russia depends on the world to get what it needs for its military. He claimed that Russia uses secret ways to avoid sanctions and buy machines and tools for its weapon factories.

“Russia’s missiles and drones are made using imported parts. Their economy depends on oil and gas money. Their rich elite want the West to stop the sanctions,” he said. “As long as Russia continues this war, the world must stay closed to them.”

Zelenskyy also called for a new system to stop countries from selling goods that could be used for weapons. He said Russian arms factories received machines from at least 12 countries this year.
