Ukraine claimed its forces targeted a major Russian gas processing plant overnight, while Moscow reported intercepting dozens of Ukrainian drones across multiple regions on Monday.
Andriy Kovalenko, the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, claimed on Telegram that Ukrainian forces struck the Astrakhan Gas Processing Plant, calling it a key Russian energy facility involved in fuel production, including gasoline and diesel.
He emphasized the plant’s role in supporting Russia’s military-industrial complex, as the energy sector serves as a primary source of defense funding.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry said its air defense systems shot down 70 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), including 27 over Rostov, 25 over Volgograd, seven over Astrakhan, five over Voronezh, four over Belgorod, and two over Kursk.
Astrakhan Governor Igor Babushkin said on Telegram that Ukraine attempted to attack objects located in the region with drones, including its fuel and energy complex, adding that a fire broke out when one of the drones fell after being intercepted by air defenses.
In Volgograd, Governor Andrey Bocharov said a “massive attack by drones took place over the region overnight, saying most of them were intercepted by air defenses.
He added that there were no casualties, but debris from downed drones caused small fires on the grounds of an oil refinery, which were quickly contained.
Ukraine’s Air Force also claimed to have shot down 38 drones fired by Russia overnight, while stating that an additional 25 UAVs failed to reach their targets.
It claimed the drones were downed over the country's capital Kyiv, as well as the Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Vinnytsia, and Khmelnytskyi regions.
