Türkiye's natural gas imports increased by 16.6% in February, compared to the same month in 2024, according to data from Türkiye's energy watchdog on Monday.
Natural gas imports in February totaled 6.43 billion cubic meters (bcm), up from approximately 5.51 bcm last year, Türkiye's Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) said in its monthly natural gas market report.
In February, 3.37 bcm of imports were made through pipelines and 3.06 bcm were imported via liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Russia was the largest natural gas supplier to Türkiye, providing 2.41 bcm, while the US and Azerbaijan followed with 2.02 bcm and 876 million cubic meters (mcm), respectively.
During this period, 334 mcm of LNG were imported from the Algeria, 288 mcm from Nigeria, 164 mcm from Trinidad and Tobago, 91 mcm from Cameroon, 90 mcm from Oman, and 74 mcm from Mozambique.
- Gas consumption up 19.1%
The country's total gas consumption increased to 7.55 bcm in February, up by 19.1% compared to the same period in February 2024.
Household consumption rose by 6% to 3.79 bcm, while gas consumption in power plants increased by 156.9% to 1.33 bcm, during the same period.
The natural gas storage volume in February declined by 50.8% to around 2.64 bcm, compared to 5.36 bcm last year.
