Ukraine saw its gas consumption from January to September fall by 7% to 17.9 billion cubic meters (bcm) compared to the same period of 2018, Ukrainian News Agency Unian announced Tuesday.
In the first nine months of 2019, Ukraine imported 11.6 bcm of natural gas from EU countries, a 44% rise compared to the same period last year.
The volume of transit gas via Ukraine from the Russian Federation to European countries and Moldova amounted to 66.3 billion cubic meters in January-September 2019, an increase of 1% from the same period of 2018.
Ukraine consumed 32.3 bcm of gas in 2018, up from 31.9 bcm in 2017.
In April 2014, Russia's gas giant, Gazprom, increased the gas price for Ukraine's state gas company, Naftogaz, by over 80% within days following the Russian occupation of Crimea.
In November 2015, Ukraine stopped natural gas imports from Russia. Since then Ukraine has received its gas supplies from EU countries.
